Empower Retirement expands presence in downtown Milwaukee

Leading retirement provider, building for growth, signs multiyear lease near the historic Third Ward

GREENWOOD VILLAGE, Colo., August 5, 2015 — Empower Retirement, the nation’s second-largest retirement services provider, announced today that it will relocate its Milwaukee office to a prominent downtown site near the historic Third Ward.

"We made this decision with our clients’ needs in mind and the value we place on exceeding their expectations in everything we do,” said Edmund F. Murphy III, president of Empower. “This move allows us to continue to take advantage of Milwaukee's strong talent pool and cost-effective business environment to continue to build the company into a leading provider of retirement plan solutions."

Murphy explained that as Empower continues to build traction in the retirement marketplace, the company’s staffing and space needs will continue to expand.

"Our story is a growth story — and we’re pleased to have a presence in Milwaukee, where we can write our next chapter," Murphy said.

Said Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett: "We’re pleased that Empower Retirement has made a home in Milwaukee, and we’re excited that it will have a presence in our bustling downtown. Milwaukee is an outstanding place to do business, and this move is the latest endorsement of our plan to attract new investment to the city."

Empower will operate client and participant services, technical support and regulatory services from the new location. Empower, which is headquartered in Greenwood Village, Colorado, has offices throughout the country. The company’s Milwaukee operation functions as a key contact center and serves more than 11,000 plan sponsor clients. In fact, over the last year, its participant call center has handled nearly a million calls.

Empower’s new office will occupy three floors at 111 E. Wisconsin Ave. Associates working at the new location will enjoy views of Lake Michigan and the Milwaukee River. The new location is adjacent to the Riverwalk and offers many restaurants and other conveniences. Covered parking for Empower associates will be provided in the Grand Avenue parking structure, which is just across the skywalk over the Milwaukee River.

McCall & Almy and Cushman & Wakefield/The Boerke Company, Inc. served as consultants to Empower on the transaction. Empower expects to occupy the new office by the end of 2015.
