GREENWOOD VILLAGE, Colo., Jan. 30, 2017 — Empower Retirement today announced the appointment of Daniel Morrison to lead the government market segment. The appointment is effective immediately.

Morrison joined Empower in 2003 and has held several sales and service leadership positions – most recently as vice president and practice leader of the company’s growing not-for-profit business. Morrison will report to Empower President Edmund F. Murphy, III.

“Dan is the ideal leader who can provide the strategic vision, thought leadership and expertise to help government plan sponsors best serve their retirement plan participants,” said Murphy. “Workers in public defined contribution plans deserve the best opportunity for a secure retirement, and under Dan’s leadership Empower will continue to serve their needs.”

Previously, as head of Empower’s not-for-profit segment, Morrison was responsible for overall sales and retention in the company’s growing book of healthcare, education, faith-based, and other non-profit plan sponsors. Morrison was also sales director with responsibility for large and mega not-for-profit, healthcare, church, education, and corporate retirement programs and earlier served as managing director, where he led a team of 70 directors and relationship managers responsible for delivering strategic solutions to plan sponsors, advisors, and consultants. Morrison said that with Empower’s extensive experience serving public plan sponsors, combined with the firm’s innovative retirement plan offerings, plan sponsors receive the benefits of an experienced and skilled team that is applying fresh thinking to participant needs.

"There's always a tremendous opportunity to provide enhanced customer service, financial wellness solutions and advice services to hard working public sector employees who need them," he said. "I’m delighted to have this opportunity to lead an organization dedicated to providing these important benefits."

Morrison is a graduate of the University of Vermont, where he earned degrees in mathematics and English.
