Empower Retirement Tees Off Partnership with PGA Tour Golfer Robert Streb
Rising PGA Tour professional represents next phase of ‘Thinking Further Ahead’ campaign
GREENWOOD VILLAGE, Colo., January 20, 2016 — Empower Retirement, the nation’s second largest retirement services provider, today unveiled a new multi-year partnership with PGA Tour player Robert Streb, 28, of Shawnee, Kansas.
Streb is currently ranked among the top 40 golfers in the world, according to Official World Golf Ranking, and last year ranked as high as number 1 in the FedEx Cup standings and finished ranked 18th. In 2015 he finished with nine top-10 PGA tournament finishes including a victory at the 2015 McGladrey Classic. Streb became a professional golfer immediately out of college and is now starting his fourth year on the PGA Tour.
“At Empower we align ourselves with partners who are highly competitive, motivated and committed to winning,” said Edmund F. Murphy III, president, Empower Retirement. "Robert is an extremely talented golfer who focused on excelling at the very highest level of his sport. He’s got a winning attitude and competitive spirit. He’s a great partner for Empower.”
“We are proud to partner with Robert and wish him tremendous success throughout the 2016 season,” said Murphy.
The sponsorship kicks off this week with Streb’s appearance at the CareerBuilder Challenge, in La Quinta, California. Along with promotion of the Empower brand, the affiliation will include various engagement opportunities with Empower clients and partners. The Empower logo will appear on Streb’s hat throughout the PGA Tour season.
“Empower helps millions of people prepare for the next stage in life. Preparation is an essential part of winning so I’m excited to promote this value,” said Streb. “It’s fantastic to have the support of the Empower team. I look forward to working together.”
Stephen Jenks, Chief Marketing Officer at Empower Retirement, described how the PGA has a huge, loyal following that tunes in to PGA tournaments and attends events across the country. “This partnership raises Empower’s visibility among a new and expanded audience,” he said.
Jenks explained that the “millennial” generation (those born after 1984), is making major financial decisions about saving, investing and home ownership. "With Robert Streb we have a fantastic brand ambassador who appeals to a new generation of customers. Creating a relationship with a bright, rising professional will help us to extend our brand promise to this important segment," he said.
Jenks noted that Streb’s home is near Empower’s second largest office location in Overland Park, which employs some 800 associates. “Our team across the country is excited about this sponsorship, but Robert’s got a lot of enthusiastic new fans right in his own backyard — literally.”
The new partnership with Streb is a continuation of Empower’s “Thinking Further Ahead” campaign, which promotes the company’s unique value proposition as an innovative retirement services provider. In 2015 Empower developed marketing sponsorships with the Denver Broncos, Kansas City Chiefs and New England Patriots of the National Football League.
